Old Windmill in London – level 2

30-11-2016 07:00

A building that might be in the countryside sits in South London. It is Brixton Flour Mill. It is 200 years old, and it is the only working flour mill in London. It operates basically the same as it always has.

To turn grain into flour, a person takes the grain and puts it into the hopper head on top of the machine. Inside the machine, two stones crush the grain into flour while also forcing it out into a bag.

Friends of the windmill want to build an educational centre, but they will need people’s help and new ideas.

Difficult words: flour (white thing for making bread), grain (pieces of a farmed plant which are used for making flour), hopper head (a container that helps move the grain into the mill machine).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
