Pakistan says no to India match – level 3

10-02-2026 07:00

Pakistan will take part in the T20 World Cup that starts on 7 February, but the team will not play its group match against India.

The government gave permission for Pakistan to join the event, yet it said the team must not face India. This decision came after Bangladesh withdrew from the tournament because of safety fears related to travel. Scotland replaced Bangladesh.

Tension between Pakistan and India has stayed high for more than a year, with political and military problems and no regular cricket series between them. Pakistan officials said they felt treated unfairly and wanted to show support for Bangladesh. The International Cricket Council warned that this choice could bring long-term problems for Pakistan cricket and for the tournament itself.

Fans in Pakistan feel sad and disappointed because they want to see their team play India. Experts say the match matters greatly for world cricket because it brings huge audiences and money. Many worry that politics now threatens the future and fairness of major cricket events.

Difficult words: permission (when someone says you can do something), withdraw (to leave or stop taking part), audience (the people who watch an event).
