Paris Police Attacks – level 3

08-10-19 07:00

Last Thursday, four police employees were killed in a Paris police headquarters in a knife attack. French authorities said that the assailant was a 45-year-old man. He had worked before as an administrator in the intelligence division since 2003. The police shot and killed the attacker. This attack caused the death of three police officers and one administrative worker. Another person went to hospital to receive medical care.

The reason why the man decided to make this extreme gesture is still not clear, as he had not shown any behavioral problems before. It was also not very clear how the man could pass through the metal detectors with a knife without being noticed.

Paris Mayor, Ane Hidalgo, tweeted her condolences to the families of the victims of the attack and said that the Paris Council will pay tribute to the victims. She praised the work done by the police to protect citizens.

Difficult words: assailant (someone who attacks or assails another person violently), extreme gesture (a very strong action), pay tribute (honor the memory).
