People in Gambia do not have electricity – level 1
15-09-2026 07:00
In Gambia, many people do not have electricity. Some places have no power for two days in the hot weather.
People are very angry because their food spoils. Shops cannot work. Protesters walk in the streets. They make fires and block roads. Police use tear gas to stop them. President Adama Barrow calls the problem a big emergency. He says that the government will bring a new power machine by the end of October 2026.
Officials say that hot weather causes the troubles. This is a big problem because the country has an election in December.
Difficult words: spoil (to go bad), tear gas (gas which police use to control angry people), trouble (a problem).
