People in Iceland say NO to the EU

Iceland has a big vote about the European Union. Most people vote No. They do not want to talk about joining the EU.

About 52.5% vote No and 47.5% voted Yes. Icelanders want to stay independent. They also want to protect their fish and waters. Fewer people say Yes because the NO group does not have interesting ideas. The government wants to start new talks, but the people say no. Iceland will not join the European Union now.

Difficult words: join (to become part of a group or organization), independent (when a country is free, without control of another country), government (people who officially rule and control a country).
