Planned attack at Lady Gaga’s concert – level 3
12-05-2025 15:00
Brazilian police stopped a planned bomb attack at Lady Gaga’s concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. The concert took place on Saturday and was free to attend. More than two million people gathered to see the singer perform.
Authorities said the attack was organized by a group that promotes hate speech and tries to radicalize young people. The suspects had recruited others, including teenagers, to help with the plan. They wanted to use homemade explosives and Molotov cocktails. Their goal was to gain attention on social media and become more well-known. The main person behind the plan was arrested, and a teenager was also caught. The police acted in coordination with the Justice Ministry. According to officials, the people behind the attack claimed to be part of Lady Gaga’s fan group, known as the Little Monsters. If the plan had succeeded, it could have caused a tragedy at the large concert. Fortunately, the authorities acted in time and prevented any harm.
Difficult words: radicalize (to make someone support extreme ideas), Molotov cocktail (a simple bomb made by putting a flammable liquid into a glass bottle and lighting it before throwing it), coordination (working together in an organized way to do something).
