Prince Harry’s memoir – level 3

12-01-2023 15:00

Prince Harry’s memoir became the UK’s fastest selling non-fiction book.

Harry’s book garnered global attention with its disclosures about his personal struggles and its accusations about other royals, including his father King Charles, stepmother Camilla, and elder brother Prince William.

According to the publisher, 400,000 copies have been sold so far across hardback, e-book, and audio formats. Last Thursday, extracts from the book leaked when its Spanish language edition went on sale early by mistake in Spain.

In the book, Harry speaks of his grief and life after the death of his mother Princess Diana when he was just 12 years old, his use of cocaine and other drugs to cope, and how he killed 25 Taliban fighters while serving as a soldier in Afghanistan. He also revealed a fight with his brother and how they both begged his father not to marry Camilla. They wed in 2005, and she is not the queen consort.

Difficult words: garner (to get), disclosure (information or something known), queen consort (a king’s wife).
