Private space stations – level 1

09-05-2024 15:00

The International Space Station will probably end by 2030. Companies are working on a new concept of a space station.

In the past, only governments put money into the space business. Now, the situation is changing. And the companies do not do their business in Florida or Houston. Sierra Space is a company from Pittsburgh, United States. In the past, Pittsburgh is the city of the steel industry. It could change now. Space business could bring many new jobs.

The company makes an animation of its space station. It has much more space than the International Space Station. Scientists can work there. They can make new materials and medicine. Some research is difficult on earth because of gravity.

Difficult words: concept (an idea or plan), steel (a hard, grey material which people use for construction), gravity (the force which pulls things towards the ground).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What potential advancements in material research and medical discoveries could be made on the new space station being developed by Sierra Space?
