The chief weapons handler responsible for loading a gun for actor Alec Baldwin, who accidentally fired and killed a cinematographer in 2021, has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in March for mistakenly loading a live round into the revolver used by Baldwin on the film set of ‘Rust’. ‘You were the armorer – the one responsible for ensuring the weapon’s safety, yet you turned it into a deadly weapon’, stated Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer during sentencing.

Gutierrez-Reed’s punishment marks the most significant legal consequence so far in the aftermath of Hutchins’ death, a case that has garnered significant attention in Hollywood and across the US.
