Scientists find many new species – level 3

18-03-2024 07:00

Biologists in New Zealand made a remarkable discovery, uncovering approximately 100 new species in a rift deep beneath the sea.

Among these organisms are unidentified creatures and a peculiar species known as a ‘sea-pig’. Their expedition aimed to find species before they vanished forever. They encountered various new creatures, including a large sea cucumber and unique sea cucumbers with leg-like appendages. Using cameras, they observed known species at unexpected depths, such as the taningia danae, with its distinctive features. The team also discovered new species of octopus and coral, along with unidentified creatures.

Previously overlooked, the Bounty Trough is now recognized as a rich area for scientific exploration.

Difficult words: peculiar (unusual or strange), appendage (an additional part attached to something).
