South Korea’s ex-president is in trouble – level 2
28-04-2025 15:00
Former South Korean President Moon Jae-in is in trouble with the law.
Prosecutors say he helped his son-in-law get a job in return for giving someone else a top government job. They say this is a kind of bribery. The son-in-law worked at a Thai airline and earned a lot of money.
Prosecutors say this is like other cases where past presidents went to jail. Moon’s friend says the charges are not true and that it is about politics. Moon was president from 2017 to 2022. Now, his party’s new candidate, Lee Myung, wants to become president in the June 3 election. He says Moon’s case is unfair and just politics.
Many South Korean leaders had problems with the law after leaving office. Moon didn’t yet about the charges.
Difficult words: prosecutor (a lawyer who works for the government), in return (to give something because you got something first), bribery (giving gifts or money to get something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What exchange do prosecutors allege took place involving Moon, his son-in-law, and a top government job?
