Sudan humanitarian crisis – level 1
07-03-2025 15:00
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) stops giving food to the Zamzam camp in Sudan. The camp is in Darfur. It has 500,000 people.
The war is getting worse. It is not safe for workers to stay. Many people have no food. The UN says they can die. The war starts in April 2023. The Sudanese army is fighting with a group called RSF. The fighting near Zamzam is very bad. Shops are burned. People cannot buy anything. They are hungry.
Many people in Sudan, 25 million, do not have food. It is hard to bring food because the roads are bad. Soldiers stop cars. The WFP asks the world to help, so food can come soon.
Difficult words: camp (a place where people stay for some time, usually in tents), burned (destroyed by fire), soldier (a person who works in the army).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How has the worsening conflict affected food supplies, markets, and access to essential aid in Sudan and Darfur?
