Syria’s only woman minister – level 2

09-02-2026 07:00

Hind Kabawat works as Syria’s minister. She is the only woman in the new government and questions why more women don’t hold high jobs.

She says the country moves from war to peace, and leaders must accept mistakes and learn from them. Many people expect clear signs of change after years of conflict.

Kabawat lived outside Syria for many years and now works inside the government. She hires many women. She wants real control over plans and money so she can help people. She says she doesn’t accept a role that exists only for show.

She visits camps where families live in tents without enough help. She thanks people for their peaceful support and asks for patience, respect, and talks between all sides.

Difficult words: question (to want to know something), peaceful (calm), patience (when you can wait and don’t get angry).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why does Kabawat insist on having real control over plans and money?
