Teachers in Romania protest – level 1
11-02-2026 07:00
Many teachers in Romania are angry. The government wants to cut money for schools and universities.
Teachers say that there is not enough money now, and cutting more will make teaching hard. Universities also lose money, which they use for research and pay. Some teachers compare Romania to Ukraine. Ukrainian teachers get more money than they do. Teachers may stop working if the cuts happen. Teachers’ groups ask people to sign a petition. It may help stop the cuts. The government will give the new plan to parliament on 20 February. Teachers want the government to keep money for schools and help students and teachers have a better future.
Difficult words: research (a study to find new information), compare (to look at two or more things and see how similar or different they are), petition (an official paper where people write their name if they want to change something).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What action are teachers’ groups asking people to take to help stop the funding cuts?
