Technology and health – level 3
31-01-2025 07:00
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas showcased the latest health technology, focusing on prevention and data integration.
Many devices, such as Withings’ health tracking system, collect personal health information and use artificial intelligence to analyze it. This data can help users understand their health better and even share insights with doctors. A hormone-measuring device allows users to track cortisol and progesterone levels through saliva testing. Over time, users will recognize patterns in their hormone levels, helping them make informed lifestyle decisions.
Other innovations included non-invasive glucose monitors, smart rings, and advanced blood pressure cuffs predicting heart disease risks. There were also menopause-tracking devices using biological data rather than self-reported symptoms.
A smart bed with built-in sensors monitors sleep, heart rate, and movement. It can also adjust positions for comfort, offer aromatherapy, and even contact emergency services if necessary. CES emphasized the importance of digital health tools in improving well-being.
Difficult words: prevention (stopping something from happening), insight (deep understanding of something), cortisol (the body’s main stress hormone), progesterone (a female hormone that causes the womb to prepare for pregnancy), saliva (the liquid produced in your mouth to keep it wet and to help to prepare for food to be digested).
