Terrorist Award – level 2

06-06-2017 07:00

In Houston, USA, teachers were disciplined for giving a 13-year-old student a ‘terrorist award.’ They put the words on a certificate for her work in a school program. The student said that terrorists do terrible things and that this was not something to joke about. She received the offensive award after the terrorist attack in Manchester.

Her mother said that she wanted the teachers to imagine how her daughter might feel about this when she grows up.

The teachers said that the certificate was supposed to be light-hearted. The school district did not say how it punished the teachers.

Difficult words: discipline (punish or train), offensive (upsetting), light-hearted (funny).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
