The oldest comet we know – level 1
17-07-2025 07:00
Scientists find a new object in space. It is called 3I/Atlas. It may be the oldest comet ever. It could be 8 billion years old. That is older than Earth and the Sun.
This comet comes from far away, outside our solar system. Something like this happens only twice before. A team in the UK talks about it at a science meeting.
The comet may come close to the Sun later this year. We may see it in the sky. With new big telescopes, like one in Chile, scientists hope to find more objects like this.
Difficult words: comet (a space rock with dust and ice), solar system (a sun with its stars), telescope (a tool to look at stars).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What is the estimated age of 3I/Atlas, and how does this compare to the ages of Earth and the Sun?
