The UK says yes to drilling in the North Sea – level 1

29-10-2026 07:00

The UK government says yes to getting new gas from under the sea. There is a plan to drill in the North Sea.

Leaders say that this gas will help keep the country safe when energy prices are high. The prime minister says that the country still needs gas, but it also wants clean energy in the future.

Many people are very angry about this decision. They say that getting more gas is bad for the planet. It will not help people get cheaper electricity. They want the government to use clean power like wind and sun instead of oil and gas.

Difficult words: drill (to make a hole in the earth to get oil or gas), price (how much money something costs), decision (what you do after thinking or talking about it).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why are many people angry about the decision to drill in the North Sea, and what alternatives do they want the government to use?
