The world’s ugliest dog – level 1

18-08-2025 07:00

Petunia is a dog. She wins the “World’s Ugliest Dog Contest.” Petunia and her owner get money and a prize.

The contest is in California. The contest starts fifty years ago, and it happens every year. It shows that how a dog looks does not matter. Many dogs in the contest live in shelters. Shelters are places for dogs without homes. People help these dogs find new homes. The contest helps people know it is good to help dogs. The contest is fun. It shows that dogs are all special in their own way.

Petunia’s win tells us it is okay to look different. The contest teaches people to be kind to all dogs.

Difficult words: prize (what you win), contest (an event when people compete against each other), shelter (a place for animals without a home).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What role does the contest play in helping shelter dogs find new homes?
