Thieves steal famous paintings – level 2

03-04-2026 07:00

Four men with masks robbed a museum in Italy. They stole three very expensive paintings by famous artists like Matisse and Renoir. The paintings are worth more than 9 million euros.

The thieves were very fast; they were inside the museum for only three minutes. The alarm started to ring, so the men ran away with only three pictures. This museum is in the countryside, far from the city, so the thieves thought it was easy to rob it.

Experts say it is very hard to find stolen art. Only about 10% of stolen paintings ever come back to the museum. Now, many people are worried about museum safety. They think other criminals might try to steal from small museums, too.

Difficult words: rob (to take money or things from a place), worth (how much money you can get if you steal something), stolen (when a thief takes something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why did the thieves think robbing this museum would be easy?
