Tourism in Europe – level 3
23-05-2025 15:00
Tourism is facing many challenges today because of political tensions and economic uncertainty between countries like Europe and the USA.
These problems make people unsure about their travel plans, which affects the travel industry. However, Europe remains a popular place for visitors, especially for Europeans who travel a lot within the continent.
Around 85% of tourism in Europe is inter-European, while 15% comes from long-distance travelers from places like the USA, China, and Latin America. These travelers often visit less known destinations, which helps reduce overcrowding in popular spots. Tourism also plays an important role in the economy of many European countries, contributing around 10% to the European GDP, and even more in some regions.
Despite the challenges, tourism is still growing, especially after COVID-19, but people are changing how they travel and spend money. Rising costs, currency changes, and environmental concerns also influence travel patterns. Europe is working to attract visitors from Asia and diversify its tourism markets to keep growing.
Difficult words: uncertainty (not being sure about something), inter-European (between European countries), diversify (to make something more varied or different).
