Trudeau and Canada’s Indigenous people – level 1
11-03-2025 15:00
In 2015, Prime Minister Trudeau promises to help Canada’s Indigenous people. He wants to stop so many from going to prison.
But now, the problem is worse. Indigenous people are a small part of Canada’s population. But many are in prison or under rules after leaving. Marvin Starblanket is an Indigenous man. He stays in prison for many years. Now, he has a five-year rule which controls where he lives and works.
Many Indigenous people have the same problem. They are poor or go through difficult things. Some think that these rules help. Others say they take away freedom. Starblanket wants to study and help Indigenous people in the future.
Difficult words: Indigenous (people who live in a place for a long time), rule (what you must do), freedom (when you are free to do what you want).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
How does Marvin Starblanket's experience with a five-year rule illustrate the struggles faced by Indigenous individuals who have spent time in prison?
