UK Storm – level 3

24-02-2020 07:00

In some areas of the UK, as much as one month’s rainfall fell over the weekend. Storm Dennis has brought severe weather, and it has taken the lives of four people. A woman died when her car became stuck, and floodwater swept the car away.

Heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in Wales and Southern England. Many rivers reached their highest levels that were ever recorded, and thousands of people have been evacuated. Flood warnings across the Severn River remain as water levels are expected to keep rising.

Travel across the country continues to be disrupted across the UK, and some major roads and travel lines are closed.

Difficult words: severe (very bad and serious), sweep away (to destroy or remove completely), disrupted (interrupted by a problem).
