US fentanyl crisis – level 1

22-03-2024 15:00

In the US, many people are dying from drugs.  People take opioids. These are drugs which reduce pain. One of them is fentanyl. It is very strong. It is stronger than heroin.

Brian lives in San Francisco. In the past, he takes fentanyl. He lives on the streets for three years. He needs money for drugs. He steals things. Sometimes, he sees people die from taking too many drugs. Brian gets sick. He almost dies.

Brian is lucky to be alive. He stops taking drugs almost a year ago. His story tells us how dangerous drugs are. Last year, opioids kill 100,000 people in the US.

Difficult words: drug (a substance which makes you feel different), reduce (to make something smaller), steal (to take something what is not yours).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What is Brian's story and how does it show the dangers of opioids in the US?
