What sauna does to your body – level 1
01-09-2025 07:00
Saunas are hot rooms which people use for health and relaxation. They are old traditions in many countries, like Finland and Japan.
Scientists study 2,000 Finnish men. They find that people who go to saunas often are healthier. They have lower blood pressure, better heart health, and live longer. In a sauna, the heat up to 90°C makes you sweat, your heart beat faster, and your blood move quickly. This is like doing exercise. Saunas may also help tired muscles after sport and make the body stronger. Heat can also help repair cells in the body.
But saunas are not safe for everyone, for example, pregnant women or those with health problems.
Difficult words: relaxation (when you rest and feel calm), blood pressure (the power your blood goes through your body), sweat (when your skin gets wet after an exercise or when you are hot).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What physiological changes occur during a sauna session that make it comparable to exercise?
