Why many people are single – level 1

15-01-2026 07:00

Many people live alone. Some adults do not have a partner. In the United States, about half of young men and women do not have a partner.

The pandemic makes dating difficult. People do not know how to meet someone or what to do when someone says “no.” Phones and online apps change how people meet. People can choose partners with rules about work, school, or height. These rules make it harder to find a partner.

Some people like being alone, but many want a partner. Some people feel sad or lonely when they cannot meet the right person. This change also changes life. People need more small houses and have fewer children. Experts do not know when this will stop.

Difficult words: adult (a person who is not a child anymore), dating (spending time with someone you like to be your partner), height (how tall a person is).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What factors introduced by the pandemic and the rise of online apps have made finding a partner more difficult?
