Cold-water chess - level 3
It’s a winter pursuit like no other, a challenge for both body and mind. This is cold-water chess!
It may look like a crazy thing to do, but here in Russia these swimmers say it does have its benefits. This man says playing in cold water helps you concentrate and lets you stay in the water for longer. He says when you get in, you face a certain fear barrier, but once you get past that you just test your tolerance and stamina. Easy!
These swimmers say they got the idea for cold-water chess after reading about winter swimmers who played the game in Soviet times, but while they may find it enjoyable, somehow it’s hard to see this version of the classic game catching on.
Difficult words: pursuit (an activity), tolerance (willingness to do something), stamina (the strength, the power to go through something difficult).
