Fire in Sao Paulo – level 2

15-09-2016 07:00

A fire in a slum in Sao Paulo, Brazil began at around 8.30 pm local time on Tuesday and it quickly spread.

The fire destroyed hundreds of homes. People called in more than 30 firefighters to stop the fire. Nobody has died in the fire, but the cause is not known.

Many of Brazil’s poorest residents live in the slums, which are filled with drugs and crime.

Difficult words: slum (an area where a lot of poor people live), spread (grow bigger), resident (a person who lives somewhere).
