Mushrooms help ill people – level 1
25-08-2025 07:00
Doctors in Melbourne are trying a new way to help people with serious illnesses. The treatment uses a drug from “magic mushrooms” and talking with doctors.
Thirty-five people take part. Many feel less sad and less afraid. They also feel calmer when thinking about death. One man, Michael Quinn, has cancer. He takes part in the program. His wife Pat says that it makes him feel better and more relaxed. He still worries, but he is calmer.
People took the drug in a quiet room with music. They also talked with doctors. This new way is not good for all people, but it can help some. Doctors want to learn more and make it easier for many people.
Difficult words: treatment (the care or medicine which doctors give to a sick person), magic mushrooms (mushrooms which change how you feel), death (when somebody dies).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What emotional changes did participants report after using the drug from “magic mushrooms” and talking with doctors?
