Moldova elections – level 2
03-10-2025 07:00
Moldova had important elections. President Maia Sandu’s pro-European party PAS won more than half of the votes. This gives the party about 54 seats and the chance to rule without help from other groups.
Sandu said Russia tried to interfere and buy votes for the pro-Russian Patriotic Bloc. That group only got around 24% of the vote. European leaders congratulated Sandu and said Moldova is protecting democracy and moving toward the European Union.
Moldova is a small and poor country, but it is important because it is next to Ukraine and Romania. A part of Moldova, called Transnistria, still has Russian soldiers. Many people think the result makes Moldova safer and keeps it closer to Europe.
Difficult words: interfere (to try to control something that is not yours), pro-Russian (liking Russia and its ideas), democracy (a system where people choose leaders by voting).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
What percentage of the vote did the pro-Russian Patriotic Bloc receive, and what did President Maia Sandu say Russia tried to do in the election?
