The US attacks Venezuela – level 2

06-01-2026 07:00

The US President Donald Trump ordered air strikes on military places in Venezuela.

People in the capital city heard explosions. Smoke rose, homes moved, and many people felt scared. Later, the city became quiet, but people sent many messages to family and friends.

The Venezuelan government rejected the attack and spoke against the US. Leaders said the US wanted oil and other resources. They called for help from other countries and asked the Security Council to meet. The government declared a national emergency, but officials didn’t clearly calm the people. Experts say the Venezuelan army couldn’t stop the US attack.

US forces took President Nicolas Maduro and his wife to New York. Maduro will go to court because of drugs and guns. Trump says the US will control the country for a time.

Difficult words: air strike (an attack from the air, usually by planes), explosion (a very loud blast), reject (to say no to something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What did residents of the capital city do once the city became quiet?
