A big flood in the Grand Canyon – level 1

07-09-2026 15:00

There is a big flood in the Grand Canyon. A lot of rain falls very fast. Two people die. Helicopters help many visitors to safety.

In summer, it rains a lot in this area. A recent forest fire makes the flood worse. There are no trees to hold the water. The dirty water takes rocks and mud down the hills. The flood also breaks a big water pipe.

Weather experts say that people must be careful. When it rains in the canyon, hikers must run up to high ground to stay safe.

Difficult words: safety (a place where nothing bad can happen to you), recent (something what happens a short time ago), hiker (a person who walks in the countryside or mountains for fun).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

Why must hikers run up to high ground when it rains in the canyon?
