A big flash flood hit the Grand Canyon in Arizona after heavy rain. At least two people died, and helicopters had to rescue many visitors.

Experts say that floods happen every year during the summer monsoon season. But this flood was much worse because a recent wildfire burned many trees on the hills. Without trees, the heavy rain quickly pushed mud, rocks, and wood down into the canyon. The fast water also destroyed an important pipeline that gives fresh water to hotels and visitors.

Weather experts warn that storms can start very quickly in the canyon. Because there is often no phone service, hikers must check the weather before walking in dangerous areas and always move to high ground during heavy rain.
