Google’s 2023 Year in Search revealed that the Israel-Hamas war dominated global queries, with terms like ‘War in Israel and Gaza’, ‘what is Hamas’, and ‘why did Hamas attack’ topping search lists.

Following the war, the Titan submersible’s implosion during a Titanic wreckage expedition and the Turkey-Syria earthquake were notable global news trends. The roundup also highlighted events and individuals, including Damar Hamlin’s NFL game cardiac arrest, actor Matthew Perry’s death, and trending personalities like Jeremy Renner and Andrew Tate.

The list featured movies such as ‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’, TV shows like ‘The Last of Us’ and ‘Ginny and Georgia’, and songs like Yoasobi’s ‘Idol’ and Jason Aldean’s ‘Try That in a Small Town’. Language trends included the Oxford word of the year, ‘Rizz’, representing charisma.
