A Danish company cuts many jobs – level 2
30-09-2025 07:00
Kalundborg in Denmark is known as “Novo Town” because many people work for Novo Nordisk. The company grew fast with its drug Wegovy, but now sales are slower.
Novo wants to cut about 9,000 jobs worldwide, including 5,000 in Denmark. This makes many local people nervous because the town depends on the company. House prices, restaurants, and local shops feel the change. Some people worry about empty houses, while others believe fewer jobs at Novo can help other companies find workers.
Experts say the cuts are big but not dangerous for Denmark’s economy. They explain that Novo is only going back to the same number of workers as in 2024.
Difficult words: sale (selling something), cut (when something becomes less or fewer), economy (all the money, jobs, and businesses in a country).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why are some residents worried about empty houses, while others think the job cuts at Novo Nordisk could help other companies find workers?
