A farmer takes RWE to court – level 2
02-06-2025 15:00
A farmer from Peru said a German company, RWE, caused a lot of pollution.
He said this made a glacier near his town melt. He wanted the company to pay money to help his town. The company said it didn’t work in Peru. It said climate change is a global problem.
A court in Germany looked at the case and said the farmer’s house was not in real danger. Because of that, the case couldn’t continue. The case is now over, and there is nothing the farmer can do.
On the other hand, the court also said that companies like RWE should take care of their actions.
Some people say this case is still important. It could help people in other countries take big companies to court for climate problems.
Difficult words: pollution (dirty air or water), glacier (big ice that moves slowly), global (about the whole world, not just one country or place).
You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
Why did the German court dismiss the farmer’s claim against RWE?
