A mysterious island – level 1

A small green island appears in a big lake in Canada. The island has green trees. But it floats on the water.
People saw it in July. A few days later, it is gone. At the end of August, the island comes back again. Experts say that trees grow on wood near the water for many years. When the lake water gets high, the trees and wood begin to float.
When the island goes away, it just moves across the water to another side of the lake. That is why people sometimes see it, and sometimes they do not.
Difficult words: appear (when you start to see something), float (to move on top of water), gone (away, not in a place).
