A woman from Mexico wins Miss World – level 3

25-11-2025 15:00

Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, was crowned the new Miss Universe in Bangkok, Thailand, marking the end of an exceptionally scandal-filled pageant season.

The 25-year-old winner’s victory was overshadowed by controversy that involved allegations of mistreatment and competition rigging. Earlier in November, Bosch herself, along with other contestants, walked out of an event after an official publicly berated her and threatened to disqualify those who offered support. Following this incident, two judges resigned, with one accusing the organizers of rigging the competition. The Miss Universe Organization later denied any wrongdoing. The pageant also featured Miss Palestine for the first time, adding to the high-profile nature of the event.

Despite the turbulence and the financial uncertainty surrounding the Miss Universe Organization, the contest concluded, with Bosch continuing to compete and ultimately winning the title.

Difficult words: pageant (a big public show or competition), rig (to manipulate or control a competition dishonestly), berate (to criticize someone angrily), turbulence (a conflict or confusion).
