Alabama court and IVF – level 1

01-03-2024 07:00

A court in Alabama, US, says that frozen embryos are children. This causes fights among Christians.

IVF is a method by which a specialist puts a man’s sperm into a woman’s egg. This happens in a lab, outside the woman’s body. Fertilization clinics now stop doing this. Some Christians are unhappy about the court’s ruling. But some groups like it. They say that people must protect embryos, too.

Politicians must solve the problem quickly. Some politicians worry. In Alabama, the fight over IVF is big. It has an impact on the lives of many people.

Difficult words: embryo (a very early stage of a baby or other animal inside the mother’s body), fertilization clinic (a place where specialists help couples have a baby), ruling (when a court decides something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What impact does the court's ruling on frozen embryos being considered children have on IVF clinics in Alabama and how are politicians responding to this issue?
