Australia’s Fires – level 1

03-01-2020 07:00

In Australia, about 100 fires burn. Fires burn about 7.5 million acres of land there.

Many residents must evacuate in the state of Victoria. They need to get away from the fires. However, some residents live in remote places. Officials tell them that it is not safe to leave. They tell them that they can stay safe indoors.

Many people want the Australian government to cancel a New Year’s Eve show. They want to use the money from the show. They want to help firefighters. They want to help people who have problems from the fires. The Australian leader does not want to cancel the show.

Difficult words: resident (a person who lives somewhere), evacuate (to leave a place because of danger), remote (far away from other places).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
