Beer from wastewater – level 2

30-05-2024 07:00

A German company makes Reuse Brew, a beer from wastewater.

They clean the water in three steps: mechanical, biological, and chemical. These steps take out solid waste and harmful substances. The last step uses ozone and filters to make the water very clean. The water is even cleaner than drinking water. The brewery then changes the water hardness to make better beer. People who tried the beer said it tasted just like normal beer.

Because of climate change, we often have water shortages. Germany also has periods without rain and there are rules for using water in gardens and cities. Reusing wastewater helps with these problems. It is good for the environment and makes good beer.

Difficult words: solid (hard or firm), hardness (how hard or soft water is), shortage (a situation in which there is not enough of something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the three steps the German company uses to clean the wastewater for their Reuse Brew, and how does this process contribute to addressing water shortages and environmental concerns?
