Bhutan is building a new city – level 3
11-03-2025 07:00
Bhutan has begun constructing a new city near the Indian border to boost its economy and stop the increasing loss of skilled workers. The Prime Minister believes this project could raise Bhutan’s population to three million.
The city, named Galu Mindfulness City (GMC), is being built on 25,000 square kilometers of land as a special administrative region. Bhutan aims to create an eco-friendly and safe city, attracting only selected investors. Essential infrastructure is being upgraded, including border crossings, while India is working on a cross-border railway to improve access. The city will focus on sustainability, using hydroelectric power and traditional Bhutanese values.
The project is expected to take 21 years, and its vision is based on happiness, well-being, and mindfulness. Many Bhutanese hope GMC will bring prosperity, better roads, and an international airport, significantly improving their country’s economy. The government remains committed to maintaining its cultural values while promoting growth.
Difficult words: boost (to help or encourage something to increase or improve), essential (necessary), prosperity (success and wealth).
