Birds fall from the sky – level 3

18-02-2022 15:00

In the northern Mexican city of Cuauhtémoc, a security camera filmed hundred of yellow-headed blackbirds falling out of the sky.

The birds fly to Mexico for winter. The footage showed a flock of birds falling onto houses like a cloud of black smoke. Most birds managed to fly off; however, later footage showed carcasses of the birds scattered on streets of the city.

According to some reports, high levels of pollution could have been the reason for the incident. Another suggestion was the birds were electrocuted while they were resting on power lines. It was also possible that a predator made the birds swirl tightly and chased them to the ground to make a catch. However, the cause of the mysterious deaths remained unclear.

Difficult words: carcass (the dead body of an animal), electrocute (to injure or kill someone by an electric shock), swirl (to move around in circles or spirals).
