Bosses earn much more money – level 3
30-01-2026 15:00
CEO pay in the United States has grown very fast since the late 20th century. The gap between very rich leaders and normal workers has become much wider.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk may become the first trillionaire CEO after approval of a very large pay deal. Other big company leaders also earn far more than before, and high pay now appears common in large companies. Many investors believe that strong leaders directly affect company success, so they accept very high rewards.
CEO pay doesn’t come as one salary. It usually includes salary, bonuses, and mostly company stock linked to the company’s value. Musk gets no salary, only stock, and he earns more shares when Tesla meets clear targets. This system aims to push CEOs to focus on long-term growth, not quick gains. Supporters say high pay rewards skill and good results. Critics say pay often rises without clear proof of better work. Studies show weak links between pay and performance, while worker pay stays almost flat. This growing gap brings questions about fairness and the future of pay systems.
Difficult words: approval (saying yes to something officially), bonus (extra money you get for good work), stock (a small part of a company you can own).
