Building falls in Jordan – level 3

23-09-2022 15:00

In Amman, the capital of Jordan, rescuers saved a 4-month-old baby from the rubble of a collapsed four-story residential building.

Rescuers pulled the mother Israa Raed from the wreckage; she distributed sweets outside a hospital for the victims.

Over 10 people were declared dead, and the death toll still increased. However, after hours of scouring the debris, rescue teams were found some survivors. People who luckily survived were in shock from the collapse, and they said that the floor gave way beneath them.

People do not know the collapse’s cause, but police arrested three people, including the building owner. The building’s neighborhood was known for its cafes, bars, and artistic venues, and it was popular with both expatriates and locals.

Difficult words: death toll (the number of dead people in an accident or disaster), scour (to search a place carefully), expatriate (a person who lives outside his native country).
