Capitol rioters free – level 1

24-01-2025 07:00

Donald Trump forgives 1,500 people from jail after the Capitol attack. The attack happens on January 6, 2021. Many people take part in the attack because Trump says the 2020 election is not fair.

Five people, including a police officer, died. Many people are hurt. The pardons free some people who do terrible things. This upsets police and some lawmakers. Fourteen people will stay in jail shorter than they should. Some leave jail, but their crimes stay in official documents.

Leaders of the attack are happy. Some people believe the pardons are not fair, but others think they are the right thing to do.

Difficult words: forgive (to say that someone’s mistake or crime is okay), pardon (to say that someone’s crime is okay), upset (to make someone angry or unhappy).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.

What are the differing opinions on Trump's decision to pardon some individuals involved in the Capitol attack, according to the text?
