Chemicals on the bottom of the sea – level 2

06-05-2021 07:00

Scientists say they found 25,000 barrels which have DDT inside. The barrels were threw away into the sea near California many years ago.

The scientists were very surprised when they found these barrels. They mapped a big area of seafloor. It was in a region with high levels of DDT in the sediments.

People think that the barrels were thrown into the water during the Second World War.

Difficult words: DDT (a chemical for killing insects), seafloor (the bottom of the ocean or sea), sediment (the solid material which goes to the bottom of the sea and stays there).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
