Chile protests – level 1

01-10-2021 15:00

Chile is the richest country in South America. Venezuela is the poorest country. Many Venezuelans leave. They come to Chile.

Iquique is a town in Chile. A migrant camp is in the middle of the town. Hundreds of migrants stay there for one year. Many are sick. The camp is dirty. The situation is very bad.

Authorities close the camp. The migrants must leave. They wander through the town. They stay on the beach. Local people do not like it.

Many people protest in the town last weekend. They fight with the migrants. They burn some of their things.

Difficult words: migrant camp (a place where stay people who leave their country, and they usually live in tents there), wander (to walk with no plan or idea what to do), protest (to say or show in public that you do not agree with something).

You can watch the original video in the Level 3 section.
