Chinese hackers attack US computers – level 2
13-01-2025 07:00
The US Treasury Department says Chinese hackers attacked its computers. Officials told Congress that in December, hackers broke in by using problems in third-party software. China denies this and says it doesn’t support hacking.
Ryan Kalember, a cybersecurity expert, explained that hackers used mistakes in software to control important accounts. This gave them access to sensitive but not secret information. He said these kinds of attacks happen often, and they target big organizations.
Kalember said the attack was serious but not as bad as some others. The hackers didn’t steal any secret information, but the US government must improve security to prevent future attacks.
Difficult words: break in (to get into), deny (to say that something is not true), sensitive (important and private), target (to select for an attack).

What did cybersecurity expert, Ryan Kalember, suggest the US government needs to do in order to prevent future hacking attacks?
