Creators in trouble after Australia’s social media ban – level 2
28-11-2025 07:00
Australia will ban social media for children under 16 on December 10. This new law makes content creators look to move abroad because their money will decrease.
Experts say the ban will hurt advertisers and reduce views, especially for YouTubers who get paid based on views. The law makes social media companies close the accounts of over a million young people. Even if teens can watch videos, the site will not send traffic to popular posts, which means creators lose money. Creators like Jordan Barclay say they cannot afford to keep their business in Australia because clients are worried about future bans.
Smaller creators will be hit the hardest, but large creators are also leaving, moving to places like the US or the UK. The Australian government said that children’s content was harmful. Some creators who make content for children are worried about their reputation.
Difficult words: content creator (a person or company that makes, produces, or creates any kind of material for publication or viewing, especially on the internet), advertiser (a company or person that promotes goods or services, often via media), afford (to have enough money to be able to pay for something), reputation (the widespread belief about someone or something).
To which countries are large content creators relocating in response to the new law?
